What should I do with the old TV?

tv-recycle

Over 90% of Hamilton County residents subscribe to cable or satellite TV.  A TV connected to cable, satellite or other pay TV service does not require a TV converter box or a new digital TV.  IF you are not connected to any pay TV service, here are your options:

  • Keep your existing analog TV and purchase a TV converter box. A converter box plugs into your TV and will keep it working after June 12, 2009, click here for more information
  • Connect to cable, satellite or other pay service
  • Purchase a television with a digital tuner

Story of Stuff

What's the difference between cardboard and cereal boxes?

Cereal boxes are different than cardboard under most circumstances. Cereal boxes are typically made of a material called paperboard (also known as boxboard). Cardboard is much easier to recycle because it usually doesn’t go through as many manufacturing steps as paperboard does. This means that it can be bundled together, shredded, and mixed with water to make new cardboard fiber. Paperboard, on the other hand, goes through a much more complicated recycling process to remove foil or a wax liner that has to be separated out from the paper fibers.  This is why paperboard is distinguished from cardboard.
