Greening Our State

In 2008, Hamilton County, along with 18 other Indiana counties, failed to meet EPA health-based outdoor air quality standards for tiny soot particles that can cause respiratory distress in children and the elderly including aggravation of lung disease, asthma attacks and heart problems. In 2007, Forbe's magazine ranked each state in six equally weighted categories: carbon footprint, air quality, water quality, hazardous waste management, policy initiatives and energy consumption. Indiana earned the dubious distinction of being the 49th greenest state in America. This did not happen by accident. Indiana has consistently passed "anti-green" legislation which has had an adverse affect on our quality of life polluting our water, air and soil.
