ARBOR DAY CEREMONY

ARBOR DAY AT THE FARMER’S MARKET

Carmel Urban Forestry to give tips and free tree seedlings at May 6 event

2017 – Carmel will recognize its 29th Arbor Day on Saturday, May 6th at the opening day of the Carmel Farmers Market on Center Green.  The City of Carmel along with the Carmel Urban Forestry Committee will be present at Booth #9 from 8-11:30 a.m. to answer landscaping questions and provide guidance on proper tree planting, mulching and pruning while also handing out free tree seedlings including; Kentucky coffeetree, shagbark hickory and Norway spruce.

Carmel was named a 2016 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. This is the 23rd consecutive year the City has been honored for its commitment to urban forest management. Carmel also received its 21st consecutive Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating environmental improvement and a higher level of tree care. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

“Everyone benefits when we educate and implement proper tree care practices. All we have to do is look around this spring season to see all the beauty the urban forest gives to our community,” said Nichole Speth, Carmel Urban Forestry Specialist.  “Only when trees are cared for properly will they grow and provide countless environmental, social and economic benefits.”

The urban forestry staff along and the Urban Forestry Committee will present the annual Donna Manlove Award and the Commercial Beautification Award to the recipients at a later date during the next CNAN meeting.

Please visit us at our booth where there will be International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborists and City Urban Forestry staff to answer your questions.
