Earth Hour 2016

On March 19, 2016, Carmel Green Initiative joined with Girl Scouts of Central Indiana to host Earth Hour at City Hall.  The lights at Carmel City Hall were turned off to join hundreds of cities around the world, iconic landmarks like the Empire State Building  and the Eiffel Tower to celebrate Earth Hour, the global climate change awareness campaign.  By taking part in this global “lights out” event, the City of Carmel acknowledges its commitment to energy conservation and renewable energy.  Girl Scouts and their families enjoyed the fire pit, hot chocolate, making glow in the dark necklaces, and observing the night sky in between the patches of clouds.  We're so grateful to the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana who joined us again this year.  Big thanks to Alexia Lopez, Madelyn Zalon, Elizabeth Baach, Gale Dembinski and Samantha Browning who organized the lights out event and activities!  Special thanks to everyone who brought their own reusable mugs for hot chocolate!!!

Earth Hour 2016 took place in 178 countries and territories, making it the biggest celebration for our planet ever! For more information on Earth Hour, visit
